The little zombies first Professor Ramos Blog

The little zombies first For as long as I can remember I have always had a love for scary things and makeup. Around the age of 12 I started to get into special effects makeup like in the horror movies. Making burns, bruises and cuts was a typical Saturday for me. Within the first few months of dabbling in special FX makeup, my mom showed me an ad for the â€Å"IE Zombie Beauty Pageant†. This was basically a beauty pageant but as a zombie, contestants had to be in full zombie makeup and complete the opening, talent, Q and A and evening gown portion of the competition. As soon as she told me about it I started working on my zombies background, how I got infected and just really building up my backstory. Our first meeting was very nerve racking for me, I was so excited then getting incredibly nervous when I saw the people I was competing against. I had only been doing this kinda makeup for not even 5 months and now I was entertaining a contest with grown women (me being the youngest and the second younges t was 21), I thought â€Å" These women have probably been doing makeup for as long as I have been alive, there was no way I could really compete with them†. The fear of my makeup looking like a total amateur made my stomach drop and my heart just stop. â€Å"I really did not think this through† I thought to myself, â€Å"No way was I was going to go through with this†, the embarrassment was too much. I stayed for the rest of the meeting to see what this thing was really about. We had dance routines and costume changes it was so overwhelming and no one even mentioned the makeup not once. Later after going home going over the schedule again and again really contemplating if I was going to do this I saw the first mention of the makeup. I initially just wanted to it for the makeup, thinking we might have workshops or something to do with even the basics of makeup basics but no. Makeup was all self done or if you were lucky enough like the eventual winner and the runner up you knew someone who could do your makeup professionally. I was not so lucky. So after school I would hurry home do my homework then practice some makeup, hurry take it all off then goto rehearsal (which was 3 hours long) then come home around 11 at night then restart everything the next day. It was a month of rehearsal and it was the longest month of my life. For the first time I wanted October to be over. I didn’t feel I made ANY improvement on my makeup and that I would make the biggest fool of myself. I had been YouTubing and recreating the same look over and over again using extremely forei gn materials like liquid latex, molding clay, spearmint glue and even attempting several times to make my own body paint. (I was on an extremely strict budget) I was clueless on the process, just knowing my very basics of colors and trying to remember when I mix this and that it makes it look like this. It was coming down to the last two weeks before the pageant everything was getting real now.   MTv was following around one of the contestants, doing behind the scenes of everything. I knew I was going to be on tv, but the thought of the off chance that my makeup might be sent me through a whirlpool of emotions. They wanted us to help get the word out, wanting us to go downtown with full face of makeup and pass out flyers. This was it I thought, everyone is going to see how tragic my makeup was, I was just going to drop out so I didnt have to embarrass myself more than I was going to tonight. Right after getting   home I started on my makeup. Damn I thought â€Å"I only practiced the same look and I couldnt copy the same look for the pageant:† I was so lost, how many zombie looks could there be? So I quickly googled zombie and the first thing that came up I tried so incredibly hard to recreate on the spot, spending almost 2 hours doing it. Starting then redoing certain cut s or burns, putting a hairdryer to my face trying to make the latex dry without catching it or myself on fire. Finally this was as good as it was going to get. My pale face with blue and green hues all over, ash black burns on my forehead and scar on my neck. I didnt look completely hopeless, wishing that was the case. After being down there for less than five minutes the unimaginable happened, people were approaching me, complimenting me. They actually thought it was good, they liked it. Telling me how disgusting it was and how scary I looked (these were the best complements I could ever ask for) asking who did my makeup and being in total Awe when I told them I did it. Under all that zombie makeup was an extremely happy little girl. Even if they were lying just to make me feel better at that moment I felt something that I hadnt felt in the longest time, confidence. Those total strangers gave me the courage to go through with the pageant. The day of the pageant was the first time we did   an actual dress rehearsal, full makeup and costumes. This is it I thought â€Å"time to make a complete fool of myself†. I felt as though I was jumping into a sea of hungary sharks, ready to be torn apart. We spent the whole day there doing our makeup and rehearsing again and again and again. With all the hot lights and the dancing with our face and body full of makeup we started to wish we were dead. Next thing I know we were just an hour away from opening the doors. I was the most apprehensive about going through with this than I had every been. â€Å"Okay† I said to myself   Ã¢â‚¬Å"this is going to be the third time others have seen your makeup, nothing to be worried about, you didnt come here to win you came here to show off your art†. Just as I began to calm myself down the doors opened and people came flooding in. Now it was just the insecurities of me only having my mom there to support me, I really did nt expect any of my family to come. So off we go one by one we walk up on the stage as dead as we can be doing the opening number and for some reason as soon as we started all my nerves went away. This was not about me or my makeup, now this was about the show we were putting on, making sure I didnt miss my cue and maintaining my dead persona. Even when were were changing for the next category it was like I was on autopilot going through the motions without even thinking about it. After the evening gown portion we took a small intermission to get the winning results. The winner was determined not by a panel of judges but by the audience. You would place a card in the contestants box then they would tally the votes, the more people you brought the higher of a chance that you would win. I honestly did not care on my placement, how far I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and looking back having an amazing time and a story to tell, as cliche as it is, I was the winner in my book. The votes were in, they had people in   S.W.A.T team costumes to â€Å"control the zombies† we all lined up on stage when they called the two finalist. The girl who was being followed around by MTV got runner up and the women whos husband does professional makeup was the winner. I was so happy that I actually went through with this. After the show was over they wanted to interview everyone again. I unfortunately had to leave early so I wasnt able to get a full interview in bu t I was approached by the coordinator of the show. He pulled me aside and told me that because of my age they were not able to award me with my actual placement of runner up. (the prize for the winners was to travel to a convention and get the word out on the pageant, you needed to be 18 or older to go). In that moment I was the most proud of myself that I have ever been. Being publicly placed at third to find out I actually got second place to a women who had gotten her makeup done professionally, beating the other girl who had also gotten professional help and only having my mom there to vote and support me. I was in complete and total awe, I was completely speechless. Constantly wanting to give up because I didnt think I was good enough based on my experience, skill and age and not letting my fears and insecurities to drag me down. I feel that I accomplished a lot and I know for a fact that it was a major stepping stone for who I am now and what I can accomplish in the future.

The Great War, a Catalyst for Changing Class Structure in Britain, Research Paper

The Great War, a Catalyst for Changing Class Structure in Britain, 1914-1919 - Research Paper Example More so, finally, arms race is also another triggering factor of the Great War because Britain and Germany had the best navies during that period and so naval rivalry between the two countries played a significant role in the emergence of World War 1. In 1914, Britain reigned over a quarter of the world’s population, it was a very powerful country, stratified in a class system, and that individuals were determined by their class ranks. About fourteen million civilians participated in the war and so they played a leading role in changing the class structure of Britain of 1914.2 The First World War changed the social class structure in Britain in many ways, first, it reduced the number of servants employed, increased the number of salaried workers, and increased ownership of the country’s wealth.3 This paper explores how the Great War changed the class structure in Britain covering its effects on the upper, middle and lower classes as well as the role of women in the how and how this change their status in the society. Class is a social category where individuals are grouped together based on their status in the society. It refers to an individual’s position in the social hierarchy based on their accessibility to wealth and power and this implies that those who are wealthy and powerful are ranked high as compared to those who are poor and less powerful. Notably, the nature of the class system is usually known by the distribution of wealth in the country.4 The British life was strictly stratified into a class system; however, during the war the traditional class differences were softened.5 The aristocracy was the wealthiest and most powerful people in Britain during the war, and they had influence because of their wealth and power. The middle or working class who worked hard to earn a living doing jobs like farmers and traders followed them. The British middle class valued education and generally, they work as managers, civil servants, or

Strategic HRD and HRM Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3250 words

Strategic HRD and HRM - Assignment Example Each cupboard is unique and requires flexibility and an attention to detail within the manufacturing process to suit client's customization needs. Company delivers bespoke fume-cupboards to customers' gate but does not get involved in its installation. The Company consists of 220 personnel, 175 of them work on manufacturing process-the core process. Balance of 45 personnel work in the sales department, design department and the support function. Support functions include payroll, accounts, HRM, and administration. HRD problem as identified in company structure appears to be the fact that HRM function is small and inadequately staffed within the company. Further evidence in the case reveals that this function is not able to achieve its objectives to a very large extent. Similarly sales and design departments appear to be under Staffed. The Company has core operations in the manufacturing process in which 80% of employees are deployed. It comprises of several functional sections like th e sheet metal cutting and folding for the cupboards, protective coating application, initial assembly, plumbing, and electrical sections. The first HRD/Organizational problem identified in core operations appears to be loose span of supervisory control over laborers. Assuming 4 supervisors per functional section, we have about 20 supervisors in 5 sections and 155 laborers under such supervisors. Each supervisor on an average has about 8 laborers under him. Second problem relates to very high labor turnover on manufacturing shop floor. This disturbs the supervisor span of control further which is already high at 8 laborers and possibly obstructs the product customization process leading to defectives and quality deficiencies. Moreover quality control function at the company is very weak too. Orders schedules are not adhered to and orders are not built as per customer specifications. In fact that there is no separate quality function in the factory, and there is a general apathy about the quality of the product produced. Apathy is also evident in the untidy workplaces. The production process does not seem to be efficient and has not been reviewed for several years. The only quality checking that is done is the check of the final product against the original specification, and the standard of skills available within the company do not match the high level of product specification required to ensure custom quality. As a result orders are sent to customers despite errors of the manufacturing process that have been logged on final inspection, in order to meet delivery dates. This involves the company in having to rectify problems once the cupboard has been either delivered or installed, and attracts additional unnecessary costs that are borne by the FumeGo.Design function, within the core manufacturing operations, is understaffed and has weak organizational linkages resulting in poor intra organizational communications. The designers do not liaise at all with manufa cturing for ensuring adherence to product design. The design section is finicky about costly perfect solutions rather than value engineering. They often add some otherwise redundant aesthetic

Teen suicides Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Teen suicides - Essay Example He was a homosexual and his private video with his gay companion was posted on the internet by his colleagues. Clementi did not find any other option suitable and opted for suicide by jumping off the bridge. His suicide was an example of cyberspace bullying and was a tragic happening which laid a great impact (Schwartz 2011). Phoebe Prince was a 15 year old girl who was also new in her school. She was the target of many bullies who used to call her with names and she was physically harassed as well. The internet and the social networking websites were also utilized to bully her. She also committed suicide when she could not handle the pressure and the bullying (Eckholm and Zezima 2010). These untoward incidents are clearly indicative of the fact that bullying has become a major problem in today’s world where it can lead to the deaths of teenagers who are victims of this crime. The involvement of social networking also has a major role to play as can be seen in the two cases. T he death of Tylor Clementi was mainly due to cyber bullying. The improper utilization of social networking websites combined with the inappropriate action taken against the cases of bullying has led to the incidence of teen suicides. Augustine and Freedom Essay -- Papers

Augustine and Freedom Evil-doing is neglect of eternal things and love of temporal things to the extent of becoming subject to them. This is done by the free choice of the will . . . Free will makes sin possible but it was given that man might live righteously.1 This is a brief summary of what Augustine believed regarding (1) the origin of sin and (2) the purpose for which humanity was endowed with free choice of the will. Though insightful as it may seem, Augustine's statement will not set to rest all the issues raised by the notion of human freedom and divine activity, since with free choice of the will come perplexing questions that continue to rage in philosophical circles. Some questions, however, can be set forth that outline parameters within which to begin understanding Augustine on the issue of human freedom and its origins/causes. If evil originates in the human will, from where does the will come? Are there any limitations to human freedom? Is the human will neutral or does it have a bias toward good? A bias toward evil? Where does free choice of the will come into play when individuals are saved by God's grace alone? What is meant by free will? On these questions, and many more related, Augustine has been an immense help. In this work an attempt will be made to illustrate Augustine's view of free will. Such categories as God's sovereignty in election and salvation, the origin of evil and its impact upon humanity, the justice of God, human responsibility and the providence of God in sanctification of the believer will be utilized. Augustine's understanding of human freedom should corroborate with (1) the nature and character of God, (2) the integrity of... ...God's relationship to time changed when time came into existence see William L. Made to Order Babies

Imagine sitting down at a table and being handed a menu, but this is no ordinary menu to order food off of. No, this menu is at a medical clinic and it’s the menu to your new customized â€Å"designer baby†. Technology has advanced so much in the past couple years that this situation could happen very soon. If not in your lifetime, then in that of your children’s. What is a â€Å"designer baby†? It’s exactly as the words imply; a baby genetically modified to what the parents call â€Å"the perfect baby†. Today, the sex of the baby, the hair color, and the eye color can all be modified to the choice of the parent. And soon other things will be possible, such as modifying genetic defects in a baby. All of this would probably sound very appealing to someone that is just being introduced to the topic, but what about the side effects? Are there any? Is there any possibility that the baby will come out harmed or with some other defect that was caused by a â€Å"modification†? There are no answers for these questions, because even scientists and doctors do not know. So, should society take the risk of harming innocent babies to try and create â€Å"the perfect baby†? No, we should not. The â€Å"designer baby† is immoral and should be illegal. Nobody knows the side effects of modifying a baby, not even the scientists who conduct the research. Not only physical side effects, but also emotional and societal side effects. We do not know how society would perceive a genetically modified human. Procedures that are done to modify a baby include terminating some embryos. There are a lot of people who would see this action as immoral. If there are riots outside of clinics because they think of abortion as being immoral, those same people would most likely riot in protest to â€Å"designer babies†. There is also the question as to what will happen once everyone is â€Å"perfect† and â€Å"perfectly modified†. What will these â€Å"perfect† people think of those who already have genetic defects? They may think of them as inferior, and look down on them. That could lead to a new type of â€Å"genetic† discrimination (Baird 12-16). If laws were made against being able to design babies, then we would not have to worry about these problems. In 2009 an article titled Designing Rules for Designer Babies was published in the Scientific American magazine. The article says: In the U. S. , no binding rules deter a private clinic from offering a menu of traits or from implanting a woman with a collection of embryos. Physicians who may receive more than $10,000 for a procedure serve as the sole arbiters of a series of thorny ethical, safety and social welfare questions (29). With no binding laws or rules to this, some doctors will do the procedures just to get the money. It would definitely bring up questions about the doctors morals and if he/she really cares about their patients. Take, for example, Nadya Suleman, whom was implanted with genetically altered embryos. The doctor implanted her with a collection of six embryos. Two of those embryos split, making her pregnant with eight children. It does make everyone question her, but also the doctor. Did he take into account that she already had six children? Did he consider her financial status? (Designing Rules 29) Another question to ask is; how far do we go in â€Å"designing† our babies? The same article from Scientific American gives a perfect example of a situation that could happen: We could get carried away â€Å"correcting† perfectly healthy babies. Once we start down the slippery slope of eliminating embryos because they are diseased, what is to stop us from picking babies for their physical or psychological traits? What if this does happen? We could create a whole new generation based on what traits are the best for someone, or how knowledgeable everyone should be. In doing this, are we not doing the same thing Hitler tried to do; create the perfect humans? It didn’t get him very far, and won’t get society anywhere today. Some might say that designing a baby would be a great thing. That we could cure diseases and disorders before the baby is even born. But when a baby is â€Å"designed to get â€Å"rid† of disease and disorders, there are embryos that are killed in order to find â€Å"the perfect baby†. It could be considered the same thing as abortion. Our technological advances in the past couple years have greatly enhanced ociety. There are also technologies that will harm society. The â€Å"designer baby† is one of those technologies. It sounds very appealing to be able to create the child that you have always wanted, but we have always said that we were created the way we are for a reason, and we should keep saying that. No one knows the side effects of creating our babies, they could come out monsters f or all we know. If laws were put into effect against the â€Å"designer baby†, then we would be safe from these â€Å"monsters†.

Miracles of Jesus Free Essay Example, 1500 words

Jesus asked from where the bread could be taken and he was given only five loaves of bread and two fish. He asked his servants to serve the bread to the people present there and thanked the god. By miracle all the people ate as much as they could and after everyone left Jesus asked his servants to collect the leftover pieces so that nothing is lost. When his servants collected the leftover pieces 12 baskets were full (Guided Bible Studies, King James Bible - John 6:1-71 n. d.). This miracle showed the power over food. After this incident a lot of people started believing in Jesus as a â€Å"prophet† and that he was a wonder to the people. A deeper meaning of this symbol is that food here not only represents the physical thing that is used to feed humans but is also talking about that spiritual food that feeds the soul of the person and that none could remain hungry in the presence of Jesus (Signs and Miracles in John n. d.). 5. The fifth miracle that was performed by Jesus Ch rist that eventually affected his deity was that he walked on the water in a sea storm. We will write a custom essay sample on Miracles of Jesus or any topic specifically for you Only $17.96 $11.86/pageorder now The disciples were going on a ship into sea whereas Jesus had gone over to the mountain but at night they got caught up in a night storm and they saw Jesus coming towards them by walking in the sea. They got fearful but then when Jesus assured them that it was the real him they welcomed him on the boat and that time the ship immediately reached its destination. This miracle shows the power invested by god to Jesus over the natural laws. As the disciples met Jesus they passed over to the safe side and in a deeper meaning this shows the power God has over the life and death of humans (Guided Bible Studies, King James Bible John 6:1-71 n. d.). Through this God’s power over the natural laws was revealed and his closeness with Jesus was revealed. This miracle revealed his deity by implying that even in the storms of life Jesus will always be there with them as he encompasses the rules of the nature. 6. The sixth miracle done by Jesus was that of g iving sight to a blind man. Jesus met this man on a journey and found out that the man was blind by birth. People of the area believed that the man was blind either because his parents had sinned or because he had sinned as they were taught this according to the Jewish law (Keener 1993). Jesus assured the people that this was not the case as no one had sinned and he went ahead and mixed his own saliva with clay and asked the blind man to rub the mixture on his eyes. The man did as he was asked and when he cleaned his eyes again with the water from the clean pool of Siloam the blind man could see again clearly.
